How They Met

Avery and Kanyon’s love story started during their senior year of high school, thanks to a spontaneous decision and a little bit of fate. Avery and her friend had decided to challenge themselves to ask some guys out and go on a date that very night. Her friend had met Kanyon at a football game the week before and thought he was incredibly nice. Originally, she wanted to ask him out, but since they had already gone to the gym together a few days prior, she didn’t want to seem too eager. So, Avery took the chance and asked Kanyon out on a blind date.

The moment she pulled up to his house, her friend decided it was the perfect time to give her a last-minute warning. “Oh, I got to warn you,” she said. “He’s like nerdy, but a cute nerdy.” With that unexpected introduction, Avery stepped into the date with curiosity and excitement.

After their first date, they kept in touch, playfully exchanging messages through Game Pigeon. A few months later, in December, Kanyon asked her on a second date. This time, sparks truly flew. They were both super flirty, and from that point on, they became inseparable. On New Year’s Eve, Kanyon asked Avery to be his girlfriend. Fast forward to today, and these two high school sweethearts are now preparing to tie the knot!

The Proposal

Kanyon’s proposal was sweet, personal, and perfectly reflective of their relationship. They had planned a simple date night, which included dinner and a movie. However, a small delay at work threw off their schedule. When Avery called Kanyon to let him know she’d be late, he reassured her that it was fine since he had mixed up the movie time, giving them an extra hour.

While driving home, Kanyon casually mentioned that his dog, Bentley, was full of energy and needed a walk. He suggested they take her for a quick stroll before their date. Once Avery arrived, he picked her up, and they headed to his house. It was dark and freezing outside, but Kanyon insisted on walking up a familiar trail near his home. By then, Avery started to suspect something was up.

As they walked, Kanyon wouldn’t let her pull out her flashlight, not wanting to spoil the surprise. When they turned a corner, a breathtaking sight awaited her—twinkling lights hanging from a tree and a sign that read, “Marry me?” Kanyon had even tied Bentley to a bench to ensure everything was just right. Overcome with emotion, he got choked up as he proposed, making the moment even more special. Their friends were there to capture the entire moment on video, creating memories they’ll cherish forever. Afterward, they celebrated with none other than Taco Time before heading off to see Christmas lights with Avery’s family.

Favorite Things to Do Together

Avery and Kanyon love spending time together, no matter what they’re doing. They enjoy cooking meals side by side and playing games, especially Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Switch that Kanyon bought for his sisters at Christmas. Running errands is another favorite pastime—Target trips are at the top of Avery’s list! When the weather is nice, they love going on walks with both of their dogs. And of course, they share a love for food, whether they’re dining out or grabbing a quick bite to-go.
